Dr. Nicol Turner-Lee

Dr. Nicol Turner Lee is a senior fellow in Governance Studies, and the Director of the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, DC. She also serves as Co-Editor-In-Chief of Techtank, a podcast that focuses on science and technology trends in the US and around the world. Prior to Brookings Dr. Turner Lee was at the Multicultural Media, Telecom, and Internet Council, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving equal opportunity and civil rights in mass media. She served as vice president and chief research and policy officer. She led the design and implementation of their research policy and advocacy agendas. Dr. Turner Lee is an expert on the intersection of race, wealth, and technology within the context of civic engagement, criminal justice, and economic development. She graduated from Colgate University with her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and African American Studies. She earned her M.A and Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University.


Dr. Turner Lee has written on the digital divide in both urban and rural areas. She focuses on the availability of local health resources in communities. She has been cited by most news networks and the New York Times and the Washington Post. She has won the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and one of the Most Inspiring Women in Media from the Alliance of Women in Media.
