Barry Fishman

Professor

Barry Fishman is a professor at University of Michigan of Learning Technologies at the Marsal Family School of Education and School of Information. He helped establish design-based implementation research (DBIR). In addition to being one of the co-writers of the Obama Administration's 2010 U.S. National Educational technology plan, Dr. Fishman has also received many accolades such as 2017 Distinguished Professor of the Year by the Association of Michigan State Universities. His current research focuses on video games as models for learning environments, design of mastery and competency-based programs in higher education as well as co-created GradeCraft, which is a game inspired Learning Management System. Dr. Fishman received his Ph.D. in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University in 1996.
