Kara Dawson

Kara Dawson,  Ph. D. Instructional Technology

Kara Dawson is a Professor of Educational Technology in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida. Early in her career, she became passionate about educational technology after attending professional development sessions on authoring software. Subsequently, she began integrating technology into her classroom and providing training to other teachers in her district on technology integration.

Dawson was motivated to pursue a full-time doctoral degree in Instructional Technology at the University of Virginia, which she successfully obtained in 1997. In 1999, she embarked on her career in higher education as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. During her tenure, she served as the Program Coordinator for the Educational Technology program and co-developed five degree programs.

Her research and academic focus revolve around the impact of educational technology on teaching and learning in K-12 and online higher education settings. She has authored over 100 published articles and has secured over $3 million in external funding dedicated to her research at the University of Florida. Additionally, she chairs SIG TACTL and serves on the review boards of numerous journals.
