Gavriel Salomon
An Educational Psychologist and Recipient of Israel’s Highest Scientific Award, the Israel Prize
Gavriel Salomon (1938-2016) earned his B.A. and M.A. (Summa Cum Laude) in geography, education, and psychology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1966, and his Ph.D. in educational psychology and communication from Stanford University in 1968. Over the course of his career, he taught at numerous universities in the USA, Mexico, Switzerland, and Japan.
Salomon's work spans a wide range of topics, including the cognitive effects of media's symbolic systems, mental effort, mindfulness and mindlessness, organizational change, the design of intelligent computer tools, the creation and study of technology-enhanced learning environments, and peace education research.
He authored three influential books:
1. Interaction of Media, Cognition, and Learning (Jossey-Bass, 1979; reissued by LEA, 1994), which was recognized as a "Citation Classic".
2. Communication and Education, Sage, 1981.
3. Technology and Education in the Information Age (published in Hebrew).
