Anna Mills
A writing instructor at Cañada College in the San Francisco Peninsula, Anna Mills is an proponent of the ethical use of AI in writing courses. Mills is a self-described critical AI literacy advocate, educating faculty on AI-generated writing while also promoting agency in the adoption of the emerging technology. Her work AI Text Generators and Teaching Writing: Starting Points for Inquiry is a sourcebook aggregating resources on AI Large Language Models. These resources include available research on language models and its impacts on learning, as well as strategies for reducing potential adverse effects, such as learning loss. Mills is also a member of the Modern Language Association and Conference on College Composition and Communication joint task force on the use of AI. Prior to her work with AI, Mills was an early adopter and advocate for Open Educational Resources (OER), authoring an advanced composition OER textbook titled How Arguments Work: A Guide to Writing and Analyzing Texts in College, which has been adopted by over 55 colleges and universities.
